USC to host historic regional council meeting
The University of the Sunshine Coast has been chosen to host the historic first public meeting of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council on Thursday 3 April.
The meeting at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium will begin at 10am with a traditional welcome, before Mayor Bob Abbot and 12 newly-elected councillors take their oath of office.
The Mayor will then make a welcome speech and each of the councillors will be invited to address the meeting.
USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas AM said he was pleased the Council had chosen the University as the venue for this important event.
“This reflects that the Council views the University as an important regional institution, and we are absolutely delighted to be hosting this historic meeting,” he said.
“It signals the start of a highly co-operative relationship in which the University and the Council will be partnering to address a range of regional issues into the future.”
Doors to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council meeting at the Innovation Centre auditorium will open to the public at 9.30am.
The meeting agenda is available at the council website at <www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au>.
