USC students to thank tourism leaders

29 October 2008

University of the Sunshine Coast business students will stage a colourful event tomorrow evening (Thursday 30 October) to thank local tourism organisations that have provided internships to students this year.

The event will feature a display of posters produced by Tourism Practicum students about their work experiences with the Sheraton Noosa Resort, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Tourism Sunshine Coast, Hyatt Regency Coolum, Ucango Travel, Abbey Museum of Art, the Toyota Country Music Muster and other organisations.

The students also plan to dress in costume to reflect the industry experiences they have gained.

USC Lecturer in Tourism and Marketing Gayle Mayes said the Tourism Practicum poster presentation was an important event for the Faculty of Business.

“It is held to showcase the posters created by the students and to thank our industry partners, the wonderful local businesses who have taken on interns and given them valuable ‘real world’ experience,” she said.

“As well as producing a poster reflecting the achievements and outcomes of their internship, the students also will be attending dressed in costume to reflect their internships.

“We have one student who worked at the Abbey Museum coming in medieval garb, and another who will be wearing skydiving gear, so there should be some really interesting photo opportunities.”
