Gaming development studio to open at USC
Melbourne-based gaming giant Big Ant Studios will establish a new gaming development studio at USC’s Innovation Centre.
The location of the Big Ant studio was announced today (Thursday 15 January) by Acting Queensland Premier Paul Lucas and Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle.
The company is one of Australia’s largest game developers, and specialises in developing premium character action and racing content for platforms that include the Sony PlayStation2, PlayStation3, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox360, and PC.
Big Ant Studios will initially employ 30 staff on the Sunshine Coast and has plans to expand staff numbers to 84 in the next four years.
It will be the largest tenant in the Innovation Centre’s Business Accelerator which was officially opened by Ms Boyle in August last year.
The Accelerator offers businesses an integrated package of serviced office space, fast speed fibre access, meeting rooms and business development services.
Innovation Centre CEO Colin Graham said the location of Big Ant Studios on the USC campus was likely to provide great work placement and employment opportunities for USC students and graduates.
