Sustainability expert to join festival online
One of the key speakers at the World Environment Day Festival at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Sunday 28 June will be sharing his wisdom from 15,000km away.
Sustainable business practices expert Bob Willard will make his presentation for the “Growing Greener, Cleaner and More Sustainable Businesses” forum at the festival via a live podcast from Toronto, Canada.
Forum organiser and USC business academic Dr Gayle Mayes said the podcast would provide a great example of how technology could be used to help the environment.
“Bob will be discussing the internal and external value and advantages of greener, cleaner practices to businesses,” Dr Mayes said.
“And the podcast will be a great demonstration of the capabilities of greener and cleaner technology. Instead of flying or driving to conferences, the alternative is to use podcasts.
“Bob will give a 10-15 minute Powerpoint presentation and then stay online for the panel discussion at the end. So, he will be able to see and hear all of the presentations, interact with the audience via the podcast and join in as one of the speakers for the full session.”
Mr Willard is a popular business and leadership development speaker who, after a 34-year career with IBM Canada, now encourages businesses to proactively avoid risks and capture opportunities associated with sustainability issues.
The forum, from 10.15am to 11.45am also will include presentations by Mayor Bob Abbot, Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s ecoBiz Coordinator Emma Menzies, business representatives and USC’s business academics.
More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the festival from 9am and 4pm on Sunday, enjoying a high-calibre speakers’ program, workshops, interactive displays, stalls and entertainment.
The festival has been organised by The Sunshine Coast Environment Council, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, SEQ Catchments, and the University of the Sunshine Coast.
