New-look team for USC Council

Tim Fairfax AM

18 December 2009

There will be a “changing of the guard” when the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Council meets again early in 2010.

The 18-member USC Council, which is the University's governing body, will have 10 new faces in the new year, following the completion of the term ending on 8 December 2009.

The Council comprises USC’s Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, the Chairperson of the University’s Academic Board, as well as elected University staff and students, Governor in Council appointed members from the community, and Council appointed members.

Among those who stepped down at the Council’s final meeting for 2009 was Deputy Chancellor Tim Fairfax AM, who had served on the Council for more than 13 years.

Mr Fairfax also was the University’s Foundation Board Chair from 1997 to 2009, and a strong supporter of USC since it opened in 1996.

Other Council members who finished their terms this month included Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Elliot, Phillip Harding, Scott Forsdike, Associate Professor Julie Matthews, Louise Ryan and students Elyse Wohling and Julie Norton.

Incoming elected USC staff members are Professor Rod Simpson, Dr Donna Weeks and Bruce Williams, while the new student members are Fiona Finnegan and Samantha Hawthorne.

Jacquelyn Wright was recently appointed by the Governor in Council, and further appointments are to be made by the USC Council in the months ahead.
