Creative Generation exhibition opens at USC
An exciting exhibition featuring artworks by high school students from across the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions has opened at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery.
Education Queensland’s Sunshine Coast North District Executive Director of Schools Dr Suzanne Innes officially opened the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design exhibition tonight (Thursday 27 August).
Previously known as the Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art, the Creative Generation exhibition is held annually to promote outstanding art education.
It includes works by senior high school students from State and non-State schools.
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said a record number of entries had been received for this year’s exhibition.
Ms Oelrich described the artworks as exciting and thought-provoking, with many of them likely to be exhibited in the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) in Brisbane in 2010.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to see the very best of school student art, as well as an opportunity for the students to see their work presented in a public art gallery in the University environment,” she said.
“Students in high schools are now working across several media, employing methods from traditional ceramic and sculpture to digital art, film, photography and installation.”
The exhibition will continue until Thursday 17 September and admission is free. The USC Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays.
