Students’ work to feature at USC Gallery
An exciting exhibition of work by 50 advanced Design students from the University of the Sunshine Coast will open at the USC Gallery at 6pm on Thursday 11 June.
The students have explored the changing aspects of technology and the implications for human and cultural identity in this exhibition, called Re:Generate, which will be officially opened by local art collector, artist and art supporter Mieke Proost De Deyne.
USC Computer-Based Design lecturer Debbie Livingston said the students had produced great work that was on a par with today’s professional industry standards.
“Their work reflects the aesthetic characteristics that are unique to digital imaging through using computer software and the digital printing process,” she said.
Ms Livingstone said student exhibitions were always well received as they had educational relevance for university students and for high school students considering a career in design.
“The exhibition also will have broader appeal for the community and visitors to the exhibition will see what is at the forefront of graphic design in Queensland,” she said.
The University’s Bachelor of Design degree prepares students for a variety of careers, including advertising, graphic design, multimedia design, packaging, publishing, visual communication and web design.
USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said the students had been encouraged to explore and respond to past, current and future global issues.
“This year, there seems to be a real focus on the environment and the need for spiritual regeneration of the earth,” she said. “It is always interesting to see how artists respond to and interpret our culture.”
Re:Generate will be at the USC Gallery until Saturday 11 July. The gallery, located at the USC campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.
