Strong interest in secrets of entrepreneurship

Professor Evan Douglas

31 March 2009

The first Enterprise Tuesday event for 2009 at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Innovation Centre has been booked out.

The event – on today from 4pm – will feature a presentation by USC’s Dean of Business Professor Evan Douglas on the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs.

Professor Douglas said the University had this year introduced a Minor in Entrepreneurship which was available to all USC students.

“This study program involves students developing ideas for a new venture and taking part in simulations, field work, workshops and other activities to learn about new venture creation and operation,” he said.

“It highlights that entrepreneurship encompasses skills that include creativity, opportunism, taking risks, problem-solving, research and inquiry and working as part of a team.”

This semester’s Enterprise Tuesday program has been sponsored by Westpac and is open to business people and all USC students, graduates and staff.

Future Enterprise Tuesday topics will include:

  • Tuesday 28 April — “From ideas to action – spotting business opportunities and creating a successful business” with guest speaker Mark Leckenby, Managing Director of Auzion Sustainable Solutions.
  • Tuesday 26 May — “The future is online – an opportunity to rethink your business model” with guest speakers Russell Bullen of Online Marketing Collective, Nigel Hall of the Innovation Centre and Trevor Holmes of ENACT.

For more information or to register for these events, go to the Innovation Centre website: <www.innovation-centre.com.au>.
