European research opportunity now available
The University of the Sunshine Coast’s strong links with tertiary institutions throughout Europe have opened up an exciting research opportunity for postgraduate students.
USC students can now apply to study a two-year Erasmus Mundus Master Program in Adapted Physical Activity, which is offered by a consortium of four European universities and funded by the European Union.
This benchmark program provides comprehensive training and state-of-the-art knowledge in adapted physical activity, disability sport, and other aspects of sport, movement and exercise science.
Those eligible to participate in this program in Europe also can apply for a scholarship worth 48,000 euros ($A72,000) to support their studies.
USC’s Associate Professor Brendan Burkett said this scholarship was bound to attract the attention of local students, particularly those in the fields of Health and Sport Science and Biomechanics.
“Existing students, who are graduating at the end of this year, or intending postgraduate students can apply through USC up to the end of the year for this scholarship,” he said.
“At 24,000 euros (about $A36,000) each year for two years to live and study in Europe, that’s a pretty good deal. In fact, that’s more money than any PhD scholarship offered in Australia.”
Dr Burkett said the Erasmus Mundus Master Program featured international cooperation of world-famous experts in teaching and research in adapted physical activity.
He said USC’s cutting-edge work in assessing and assisting Paralympic athletes meant its students would stand in good stead for this Master program and scholarship.
