USC prepares for Graduation ceremony
A man who has shaken the hands of about 80,000 university graduates over the past 15 years will soon congratulate 1,200 more at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Former Queensland Liberal leader Sir Llewellyn Edwards AC will deliver the graduation address at USC’s annual Graduation ceremony on Friday 17 April.
Sir Llew has just retired after 15 years as Chancellor of the University of Queensland (UQ) where he presided over more than 300 graduation ceremonies.
The former electrician, doctor and politician holds honorary doctorates from UQ, Griffith University and the Queensland University of Technology.
He was chairman and CEO of Brisbane’s World Expo 88 and was named Queenslander of the Year in 1988.
A crowd of 2,500 people is expected to attend next Friday's ceremony, at which USC Chancellor John Dobson OAM will confer about 1,200 degrees and certificates.
The event in the University’s Sports Stadium will feature plenty of pomp and ceremony, including an academic procession, the presentation of medals for outstanding academics and students, and the presentation of degrees and certificates to more than 500 graduands.
Honorary senior fellowships will be awarded to renowned art collector Ken Hinds and former Chancellor State College principal John Lockhart.
The ceremony will be video-streamed live on the University of the Sunshine Coast website.
