Headstart evening for high school students
High school students who’d like to know what it’s like to go to university are invited to a special Headstart information evening at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday 18 March from 6.30pm.
Headstart is an exciting program that enables Year 11 and 12 students to complete accredited university courses that also count towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
USC External Relations Coordinator Kylie Russell said Headstart was designed to create a seamless transition from school to university and offer school students an opportunity to extend their academic experiences.
She said the information evening, for current Year 11 and 12 students and their parents, would outline the Headstart program requirements, the costs involved and the scholarships available for applicants.
“You’ll also be able to speak to USC staff about the courses that you can study and to Headstart students about their experiences,” she said.
“Through Headstart, you can attend lectures and classes with university students and learn from lecturers who have practical industry experience.
“With more than 90 courses to choose from, you can study a course that you’re passionate about.”
Ms Russell said more than 165 students from 30 high schools throughout the region had participated in Headstart in 2008. Applications for Semester 2 will close on 15 May 2009.
To register for the Headstart event, email <schools@usc.edu.au> or call Tegan McFarland on 5459 4795.
