Information evening for aspiring teachers
The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold a special information evening on Wednesday 28 October for those interested in studying primary education in 2010.
This event, starting at 6.30pm, will outline USC’s new Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree and the career opportunities available for primary teaching graduates.
Head of USC’s School of Science and Education, Professor Noel Meyers, said those attending the Primary Education Information Evening would be able to talk one-on-one with academics about the degree.
Admissions staff also will be on hand to explain how to apply to study at USC or change QTAC preferences.
Professor Meyers said the four-year Bachelor of Education (Primary) was developed in consultation with Education Queensland, the Queensland College of Teachers and principals and staff of Sunshine Coast schools.
“The program will develop highly-skilled teachers with a deep understanding of curriculum and theory,” he said.
“It will see students spend one day of every week of the four-year program working in schools, as well as undertaking a major placement each year, with two in the final year of the program.”
Graduates will be eligible for registration with the Queensland College of Teachers and qualified to teach children from Prep to Year 7.
Professor Meyers said demand for primary school teachers was expected to grow in coming years, due to a large number of current teachers reaching retirement age.
“Training primary teachers from within the local region will contribute to filling the anticipated demand,” he said.
Registrations are required for the event. Contact USC’s External Relations on 5456 5000 or register online at <www.usc.edu.au/info>.
