Thousands receive offers to study at USC

New students inspect the USC campus

15 January 2009

Almost 2,100 people have been offered tertiary education places at the University of the Sunshine Coast starting Semester 1, 2009, and the figure is set to climb with a second round of offers being made on February 5.

One in every 10 offers to date are for places in USC’s Bachelor of Nursing Science degree which was introduced two years ago to help cater for the growing demand for qualified nursing graduates locally and across Australia.

The University also received strong demand for places in other health-related degrees, especially Nutrition and Dietetics, Psychology, Paramedic Science, Sport and Exercise Science, and Occupational Therapy.

The 2095 offers for places at USC include 1473 offers to Sunshine Coast applicants and 213 to Brisbane residents. The remaining offers are to applicants from regional Queensland, interstate and overseas.

The new intake of students is expected to push the University’s total student population to above 6,000.

USC’s Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said it was pleasing to see such strong interest in Nursing Science and other health-related degrees.

“The whole allied health area is something that we have been developing in association with the Sunshine Coast and Cooloola Health Service District to ensure adequate numbers of health care professionals are available as the region grows,” he said.

“Our partnership with SCCHSD has been critical in ensuring quality placements for our allied health students – particularly those studying Nursing Science – so they will be work-ready the day they graduate.”

Professor Hill congratulated all applicants who received an offer today and he looked forward to welcoming them to USC during Orientation Week.

The University of the Sunshine Coast is still accepting applications to study in 2009. Contact Tania Halliday at USC on +61 7 5430 2876 for more details.

The first round of offers was released on-line through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre – www.qtac.edu.au) at 1am today (Thursday, January 15) and enrolment packs from USC will begin arriving in applicants’ mailboxes over the next few days.

Responding promptly to the offer pack will guarantee a place at USC in Semester 1 which begins February 23, and Orientation Week will be held the week prior (16-20 February).

Anyone who has applied to USC but does not receive an offer pack within the next few days should contact Tania Halliday at the University on +61 7 5430 2876.
