Design exhibition draws large crowd
A large crowd attended the official opening tonight of an exciting exhibition by 50 advanced Design students from the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The students explored the changing aspects of technology and the implications for human and cultural identity in this exhibition, called Re:Generate.
Local art collector, artist and art supporter Mieke Proost De Deyne officially opened the exhibition.
USC Computer-Based Design lecturer Debbie Livingston said the students had produced great work that was on a par with professional industry standards.
She said the exhibition would appeal to a wide audience, particularly high school and university students who are considering a career in design.
USC Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said the students had been encouraged to explore and respond to past, current and future global issues.
“This year, there seems to be a real focus on the environment and the need for spiritual regeneration of the earth,” she said.
“It is always interesting to see how artists respond to and interpret our culture.”
Re:Generate will be at the USC Gallery until Saturday 11 July.
The gallery, located at the USC campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs, is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.
The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.
