Five final-year Public Relations students have assisted Tourism Sunshine Coast in reviewing the communication between the tourism board and its members.

The students surveyed tourism industry operators throughout the region to determine the effectiveness of Tourism Sunshine Coast’s communication, and presented their findings to key decision makers in the organisation.

Tourism Sunshine Coast CEO Russell Mason congratulated the students on their hard work, saying their research results already were being utilised to plan future communication activities.

“The review was delivered with exceptionally high levels of professionalism, enthusiasm and creativity,” Mr Mason said.

He said Tourism Sunshine Coast appreciated the team’s commitment to the project and he congratulated them on achieving so much in such a small amount of time.

The USC team comprised students from Denmark, Poland, Norway, New Zealand and Australia.

Team member Tim Barrett said each student had contributed unique skills towards the communication audit and brought a high level of commitment and focus.

“It has been very rewarding working for Tourism Sunshine Coast because it gave us a taste for the professional world of public relations,” he said. “It has been a pleasure to provide Tourism Sunshine Coast with a communications audit that they can use for future decisions.”

The industry project was made available through USC’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, which enables students to work closely with businesses to learn real-life outcomes.

Tutor Sarah Pye said the team tackled the audit professionally and with dedication, and their work on the project would stand them in good stead in finding public relations positions.
