USC to extend Wall of Fame
The University of the Sunshine Coast is facing a very welcome dilemma—it has run out of room on its “Wall of Fame” for award-winning staff.
This wall in the USC Library currently features large portraits of staff who have won five prestigious Australian Learning and Teaching Council (previously Carrick Awards) citations over the past three years.
However, the number of ALTC citation winners from the University more than doubled overnight on 18 August when USC staff collected a further six citations at a gala event in Brisbane.
Three awards went to academics – Dr Ann Parkinson from Science, Health and Education, Anna Potter from Arts and Social Sciences, and Dr Monte Wynder from Business.
Three more went to administrative, professional and technical staff: Kylie Russell and Tegan McFarland who coordinate USC’s Headstart program for high school students; Margot Reeh who runs the University’s student-to-student mentoring program; and Global Opportunities student exchange program coordinator Liani Eckard.
The USC citations were among 206 presented last month by the Australian Government to individuals and teams involved in higher education across the nation. Each citation is worth $10,000.
USC Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said the University would hold a special celebration on Tuesday 15 September (from 8.30-9.30am) to honour this year’s ALTC citation recipients.
He said portraits of the new award winners would be featured on an adjoining wall to the current Wall of Fame.
Professor Hill said it was particularly gratifying to see staff from such a broad cross-section of the University rewarded by the ALTC this year.
“To reach the level of success attained this year is a real testament to the quality of our staff, the programs they put in place and USC’s focus on a quality education for our students,” he said.
