CareerHub helps graduate gain top retail job
When Rhyannon Vos graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast she had two ambitions: to get a full-time job with a career path and to stay in her home town. She got both.
“Now I’ve got a future here,” smiled the 22-year-old new Assistant Marketing Manager of Stockland Caloundra shopping centre.
The former Mountain Creek State High School student was delighted with the job opportunity resulting from her Bachelor of Business, majoring in marketing.
“I’ve been at Stockland for two months and every day I’m moving around the centre, creating relationships with retailers and customers,” Rhyannon said.
“It’s challenging and fun. On a typical day I’ll be trying to increase traffic to the specialty shops or rewarding local sports and schools through fun promotional campaigns. It’s a graduate position so they offer lots of training too.”
Rhyannon applied for the job on USC’s CareerHub employment website and was appointed within 24 hours of her interview.
“They were impressed with previous USC students who’d worked for them,” she said. “I did my degree at USC because it had a good range of courses and was close to home. The lecturers and tutors were really approachable.”
Dr Gayle Mayes, who lectured in Sport and Event Marketing, said Rhyannon showed great initiative during her studies.
“She always did extremely well in assignments and was a good communicator and team member,” Dr Mayes said. “It’s tremendous to see our students getting such good management positions here on the Coast.”
