Surface Tension at USC Gallery

James L PETERSON, Birds of a Feather

17 September

The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery will host the works of four artists considered masters of their craft, when Surface Tension, an exhibition of ceramics and painting, opens at 6pm on Thursday 24 September.

Well-known curator and arts commentator Mr John Massy will open the exhibition, which features work by ceramic artists Bob Connery, Michael Pugh and James Lamar Peterson and painter Elizabeth Duguid, herself a former Sunshine Coast resident.

University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said the exhibition strove to unite the different talents of the four artists.

“Each artist in this exhibition creates a particular surface in their work that is unique to their art. We are delighted to be able to bring such a wealth of skill and artistry together in one exhibition,” she said.

“Calling the exhibition Surface Tension refers to the emulsions as in paints or glazes that the artists use to gain certain outcomes in their work.

“The artwork is of course greater than its surface but often that is what we respond to first or what we remember later.” She said.

The exhibition will continue until Saturday 7 November and admission is free. The USC Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays, closed Sundays and public holidays.
