Book launch for USC Education academic
A University of the Sunshine Coast academic who has won awards for linking education theory and neurological research with the everyday realities of working with children will launch his fourth book tomorrow.
USC Associate Professor in Education Michael Nagel, who has more than 25 years of sector experience on three continents, is a co-author of ‘Teaching: Making a Difference’.
Dr Nagel has contributed chapters on student learning and motivation to the textbook, which is aimed at preservice teachers such as those studying the popular Education courses at USC.
The book provides an overview of the teaching profession based on contemporary research, blending theory and practice.
“I look at the research regarding how people learn, how motivation works from a neurological perspective and how that can help teachers engage with 21st century learners,” he said.
The launch will be held from 3pm to 4pm on Wednesday 17 November.at the University Co-op Bookshop at Sippy Downs.
The chairperson will be USC Head of School of Science and Education Professor Noel Meyers and the guest speaker will be Lucy Russell, general manager of Higher Education at the book’s publisher, John Wiley & Sons Australia.
Dr Nagel’s previous books include 2006’s 'Boys Stir Us' and 2008’s 'It's A Girl Thing'.
He has also taught primary, middle school and high school in Canada and Australia and is a member of the prestigious International Neuropsychological Society.
