Business leaders inspire school students

4 May 2010

More than 220 Year 10 students will converge on the University of the Sunshine Coast tomorrow, Wednesday 5 May, to gain first-hand insight into the careers of leading local business people.

The theme of the 2010 Business Enterprise Day is Career Paths.

Event organiser Julie Flanagan of USC's Faculty of Business said she was delighted that two dozen successful people from diverse fields had agreed to present workshops to the students from eight Coast schools.

“The fields include law, jewellery, fashion and interior design, marketing and sales, accounting, skincare, journalism, banking, photography, real estate and information technology,” Ms Flanagan said.

The keynote speaker will be The Buildmore Group’s Sam Sheppard talking about women in the construction industry.

Ms Flanagan said USC hoped the teenagers would gain from ‘real world’ stories that complemented their school business studies.

“It will be fantastic for them to see how passions or hobbies can be turned into careers using a raft of other skills, from accounting to marketing.”

Presented by the USC Faculty of Business and the Business Educators’ Association of Queensland, the 2010 event is supported by Sunshine Coast Enterprises.

It will be held at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium between 9am and 2pm.
