Business student makes fashion sense

Business student Cameron Scott

25 November 2010

A budding entrepreneur has his first online company up and running before graduating from his Business degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Cameron Scott, 21, of Mooloolaba, launched fashion business Bonvoy Apparel with his business partner Calum Shand, 23, in August. Cameron has just finished his last exam for his USC degree.

“On the accounting side, I work on product prices, orders and overheads while Calum’s a graphic designer and handles the marketing side,” Cameron said.

“I couldn’t have done this without my USC Business studies. When I left Nambour High I wanted to be an entrepreneur and this is my stepping stone.”

Cameron said the focused, practical approaches of USC lecturers Peter Baxter and Monte Wynder were inspirational.

Bonvoy Apparel offers modern, unisex clothing with screen-printed designs influenced by photography, music and local art.

“We’re about to release our next batch of apparel,” said Cameron, who’s also honing his skills as an accounts assistant for a Belgium Coffee wholesale firm.

“We’ve focused on perfecting the loose, low-slung neckline singlet and found the best way to do that is to have it made 100 percent in Australia. This gives us the chance to oversee the process and establishes a niche.”
