USC engineering forum to help graduates
The University of the Sunshine Coast will host a forum on Wednesday 10 February to assess the ways in which the engineering industry is changing to become more environmentally sustainable.
The Civil Construction Industry Forum will bring together local professionals and stakeholders to discuss community needs and ways of ensuring excellence in USC’s new engineering program to expand the expertise available on the Sunshine Coast.
USC's Professor of Engineering Mark Porter said the forum was an opportunity to examine how civil engineering could enhance the sustainability of the region, including its lifestyle and environment.
“The University is hosting the forum along with other initiatives so our graduates will be taught the most current, industry-specific knowledge and skills before moving into the workforce,” he said.
“This integration of education and industry is vital to tailor the new USC engineering program, form partnerships and develop strong links for sustainable growth on the Coast.”
Professor Porter said energy efficiency and 5-star green buildings also would be on the agenda at the invitation-only forum from 7am at the Innovation Centre.
It is part of an engineering reform project funded by the Federal Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. The forum will be sponsored by Shadforth Civil Engineering Contractors.
