Printmaking exhibition to open at USC Gallery
The sensual nature of sub-tropical Queensland features in a stunning printmaking exhibition that will open at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 4 March.
The Far Fetched Etch exhibition, by former zoological and botanical illustrator Judith Rosenberg of Nambour, comprises a series of limited edition prints, artists’ proofs and artists’ books.
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said the exhibition was a celebration of Judith’s love of the difficult and exacting art-form of printmaking.
“She explores sub-tropical Queensland’s sensual nature but often with a twist – with sprites, dreamscapes, fish and crabs, twining leaves and luscious human forms leading to the bizarre and mysterious,” she said.
In conjunction with the Far Fetched Etch exhibition, USC Gallery will display a series of works by the late artist John Coburn (1925-2008).
Coburn was commissioned by the University in 1998 to paint Sunshine Coast and then prepare 12-colour, limited-edition prints on Velin Arches paper.
Also on display will be Coburn’s working drawing, along with other material to trace the process of fine art printmaking.
Both exhibitions will open at 6pm on Thursday 4 March and continue until Thursday 1 April. Admission is free and open to the public. The USC Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays.
The Gallery’s full exhibition program for Semester 1 is now available online.
