USC prepares for huge Graduation ceremony
A capacity crowd of 3,000 people is expected to attend the University of the Sunshine Coast’s annual Graduation ceremony on Friday 9 April.
More than 600 graduands will gown up for what is likely to be the biggest single ceremony of its kind in Queensland this year.
The event in USC’s Sports Stadium will feature plenty of pomp and ceremony, including an academic procession, the presentation of medals for outstanding academics and students, and the presentation of honorary awards.
USC Chancellor John Dobson OAM will confer degrees and certificates on graduands, while Australian diplomat and author Richard Woolcott AC will deliver the Graduation address.
Mr Woolcott’s decorated diplomatic career has included carrying out Special Envoy roles for Prime Ministers Holt, Whitlam, Howard and Rudd. He is the Founding Director of the Asia Society AustralAsia Centre and a founding member of the Australian American Leadership Foundation.
The ceremony will be a bitter-sweet occasion for USC’s founding Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas AM, as it will be the final Graduation he presides over before his retirement in June.
The University has taken special steps to ensure no-one misses out on watching this year’s Graduation ceremony.
The event will be video-streamed live on the USC website and featured on a big screen outside the stadium.
