Midyear Orientation set to kick off
About 1,400 new students will kick off Semester 2 Orientation next week with a range of informative and fun events, from USC’s Great Court Race and World Cup soccer match to campus tours and course workshops.
The University of the Sunshine Coast’s mid-year intake, which includes 400 new International students from 31 countries such as Germany and the United States, will swell total enrolments to more than 7,000.
The most popular program this semester is the Graduate Diploma in Education, followed by undergraduate degrees focusing on Psychology, Business and Arts.
USC offers more than 160 degree programs.
There is also great interest in innovative USC programs bridging educational and geographic gaps such as Tertiary Preparation Pathway, Study Abroad and Headstart.
Orientation officially starts with a traditional Indigenous welcome to country and a personal message from USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill on Monday 19 July from 11am to noon. It will be followed by a free barbecue and live entertainment.
Tuesday 20 July will host Community Day Markets from 10am and a Trivia Night fundraiser at the UniClub next to the oval from 6pm.
Wednesday 21 July is Sports and Societies Day, with Orientation highlights including the World Cup soccer challenge from 12 noon to 2pm and the ninth annual running of the USC Great Court Race from 12.30pm.
Strong crowds and competitors are expected on campus for the Great Court Race, after the Semester 1 event was washed out. A free movie screening of Avatar from 7pm on the Wednesday will help students wind down.
The social and academic events continue until Friday 23 July, as students settle into their new routines, meet staff, tour the campus and learn about degrees and how to manage their finances and stress levels.
