School captain receives $12,000 scholarship
Pacific Lutheran College’s 2009 school captain Taylor Peters has received a $12,000 academic excellence scholarship to study at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Taylor, 18, of Meridan Plains has started a Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree this week after receiving one of two annual Renouf Family Scholarships on Monday 15 February.
These scholarships were established in 2008 by Sir Clem and Lady Firth Renouf to assist high-achieving students who are in financial need.
Taylor, who achieved an OP2, said she was grateful for the opportunities that the scholarship would provide her during her time at university.
“I feel incredibly lucky and privileged to be the recipient of such a generous donation made by Sir Clem,” she said.
“The scholarship will allow me to be a part of much more throughout my university experience, while also giving me the ability to feel not so burdened by financial difficulty.”
Taylor said her career ambition was to teach children in lower primary school classes on the Sunshine Coast.
“I have chosen to study at USC due to the unique learning environment, the close locality to my home and the smaller, more community-style classes,” she said.
“I also like the quality of care that I have heard tutors and lecturers put in to ensuring every student's education is the best it can be.”
The Renouf Family Scholarships are among six $12,000 academic excellence scholarships awarded annually at USC.
The other scholarships include two Tim Fairfax Regional Scholarships, which support students from remote or regional areas, and two Chancellor’s Scholarships, which are awarded for high academic achievement.
