USC examines $13m in federal projects
The University of the Sunshine Coast is helping assess the effectiveness of $13 million worth of federally-funded projects in boosting higher education across the country over the past four years.
A partnership involving USC Manager of the Office of Learning and Teaching Tilly Hinton and the University of Queensland has won a $208,000 grant from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) for the investigation.
“More than 80 learning and teaching projects across the country have received $13 million in ALTC grants since the scheme started in 2006 and we will help gauge their success,” Ms Hinton said.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for USC because there’s so much money and work invested in people receiving these grants across Australia.
“It’s also a great privilege for a smaller, regional university like USC to offer its perspective and expertise alongside a large, research-intensive institution like UQ.”
The team will investigate the impacts of specific strategies in achieving a project’s outcome or adopting its innovation. It is the first such review in the ALTC grants system.
The ALTC promotes excellence in higher education by recognising, rewarding and supporting teachers and professional staff through awards, fellowships and grants.
USC has previously received three such grants, for projects on mental health leadership, the whole of university experience, and offshore education.
