Australian String Quartet to play at USC

The Australian String Quartet

3 November 2010

The internationally-acclaimed Australian String Quartet will perform at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday 16 November at 7pm.

Tickets for this concert have sold out.

The special Sunshine Coast performance is part of the quartet’s 2010 Australian Concert Series called “Unity” and will feature selections from Beethoven, Peter Sculthorpe and Mozart.

The concert is a prestigious event for music lovers on the Sunshine Coast and is one of only two performances in the national tour to be held outside capital cities.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards the construction of an Olympic swimming pool at the University.

The Australian String Quartet holds the distinction of having won more international chamber music competitions than any other ensemble in Australian history, including the 2005 Cremona International String Quartet Competition and the 2002 Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.

The quartet also claimed second prize in the Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition in Italy in 2005.

The current line-up comprises Sophie Rowell (violin), Rachel Johnston (cello), Anne Horton (violin) and Irina Morozova (viola).

Previous Australian String Quartet concerts at the University have sold out quickly, so this year’s event will be held in USC’s largest lecture theatre.

Schultz Toomey O’Brien Lawyers is the major sponsor of the concert, which also has been supported by the Sunshine Coast Daily and Purple Palate Fine Wine and Events.
