Coast leaders gather to establish What Works
Business, government, academic and other community leaders and decision-makers will meet for the inaugural “What Works” conference at the University of the Sunshine Coast tomorrow (Friday 12 November).
This interactive event, jointly organised by the Sunshine Coast Council and USC, will showcase innovative strategies used elsewhere to promote economic and jobs growth, which might be successfully employed locally.
The conference will focus on sustainable economic futures for the region and will be the first of a planned annual conference series called “Sunshine Coast Futures”.
It will be held at USC’s Innovation Centre Auditorium from 9am to 5pm and will feature a variety of speakers, including:
- Keynote speaker, Access Economics Macroeconomic Group director Chris Richardson;
- Industry Investment NSW, Hunter Region Acting Regional Director Peter Brown;
- Sunshine Coast Council CEO John Knaggs; and
- USC’s Pro Vice-Chancellor for Regional Engagement Professor Mike Hefferan.
Professor Hefferan said the conference would feature economic and jobs growth strategies and structures used in several comparable regions in Australia.
“There will be a particular emphasis on how partnerships accelerate economic and jobs growth, and how lessons learned might be applied to the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
"It will be all about what’s worked well elsewhere, and what might also work well here to enhance a sustainable economy."
