National treasure to discuss business morality

27 August 2010

The relationship between morality and business will be the hot topic at the next University of the Sunshine Coast Business Professionals Forum on Tuesday 31 August at 5.30pm.

Keynote speaker Father Frank Brennan will address the topic “Is there morality of business?” at the monthly gathering of business people at USC’s Innovation Centre auditorium.

His presentation will particularly focus on issues of ethics, corporate governance and contemporary business practices.

Fr Brennan has been a strong advocate in the areas of law, social justice and reconciliation and, in 1998, was classified as a Living National Treasure by the Australian National Trust.

The Jesuit priest has received several human rights awards, including being awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to Indigenous Australians.

He is a Professor of Law at the Australian Catholic University’s Public Policy Institute and is recognised as an engaging and thought-provoking speaker.

The forum will cost $33, which also covers light refreshments during networking. Registrations are required by contacting USC’s Faculty of Business on 5430 1221.

The University of the Sunshine Coast, in association with CPA Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, hold the Business Professionals’ Forums regularly.

The forums give Coast business people an opportunity to hear high-profile guest speakers addressing issues of relevance, and to spend time networking.

Fr Brennan also will attend a Community Collaboration Symposium at USC from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday 31 August. This event is aimed at bringing together organisations from across the Coast to work together for mutual benefit.

Inquiries about the symposium can be made by contacting Heidi Keast at hkeast@usc.edu.au or (07) 5456 5023.
