Seasoned Design student winners announced
Graduating Design students at the University of the Sunshine Coast have launched an exhibition called Seasoned at the University’s Art Gallery.
The exhibition showcases the creative designs of 40 graduating students in celebration of their transition to industry professionals in marketing, advertising and communications. Their portfolios include print design, 3D design and e-media.
The theme Seasoned relates to students ready to move forward as competent design practitioners. “We are potent, unique, and believe that one small taste of our work is only the beginning,” said graduating student Jody Horne.
During the exhibition opening celebrations on Thursday, Lisa Lonergan won the Best Portfolio Prize, while Taylor Crisdale received the runners-up award. These prizes are supported through a generous donation from the Proost/De Deyne Family.
The Most Improved Student prizes, donated by Artisan Recruitment, went to Julia Turner and Ryan Dowd.
Judges were local businessman Ferre De Deyne and industry professionals Madalene Hall from EMs Design and international designer and photographer Fi McGhee.
Leading Edge computers have also sponsored the exhibition and supplied the computers used to show the students 3D designs.
“This is sure to be a great opportunity for everyone to be inspired by the original, fresh and exciting ideas of this talented group of individuals,” said Dr Debra Livingston, Program Leader for Design of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Seasoned will run until Saturday 20 November at the USC Gallery, Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. The Gallery is open to the public on Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm and admission is free.
