Seasoned students spice up design portfolios
Advanced level Design students at the University of the Sunshine Coast will today present their portfolios of digital design and commercial graphic art in an appetising exhibition called Seasoned.
This tasty sample of student works will be opened by USC’s Dean of Arts and Social Sciences Professor Pam Dyer at the USC Gallery at 6pm.
The annual folio exhibition is one of the most popular exhibitions on the Gallery’s calendar, and with 48 students involved, it is expected to attract a large crowd.
Acting USC Gallery Curator Yenda Carson said Seasoned highlighted the breadth of individual styles and the range of concepts created by USC students about to embark on careers in design.
“It incorporates digital prints, graphic design, animation, illustration, magazine spreads, web sites and interactive CD-ROMs produced by the students over the past three years,” she said.
The students chose the exhibition title of Seasoned as a way to describe themselves as competent, soon-to-be graduates who are ready to move forward in the world of graphic design.
“Seasoned also represents our purpose as design students, which is to bring a rich, flavour-enhancing quality to design ideas,” they said. “Much akin to seasonings, we are potent, unique and more-ish.”
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Proost/De Deyne Family Prize for best portfolio, along with other prizes.
The exhibition will be on display from 11-20 November at the USC Gallery, located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs.
The Gallery is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday, but is closed Sundays and public holidays.
