Students gear up for Great Court Race
The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold its popular Great Court Race on Wednesday 21 July at 12.30pm, weather permitting, as a highlight of its Semester 2 Orientation activities.
This will be the ninth annual running of the race, which is usually held at the start of Semester 1, but was postponed this year due to heavy rainfall in February.
All serious runners who are students at USC are welcome to compete in this exciting middle-distance race around USC’s Great Court (between buildings D and I). Entry to the event is free.
Cash prizes of $125 for first, $75 for second and $50 for third will be awarded to male and female competitors. The first place-getters also will receive the Dean Van der Helm Memorial Shield, to be presented by Dean’s family.
Competitors will gather on campus at the service road between Buildings H and I for the start of the race.
Other Orientation Week activities tomorrow (Wednesday) will include presentations by on-campus sports clubs and societies, academic information sessions, campus tours, a free barbecue lunch with live entertainment, a soccer competition and a free movie night.
On Thursday, students can take a bush tucker walk around campus with Aboriginal historian and nutritionist Beverly Hand from noon-1pm and watch a re-enactment of three local indigenous Creation stories from 1-2pm.
The University’s chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society has organised a bus trip to the Maleny hinterland on Friday, taking in Mary Cairncross Park, the township of Maleny and Kondalilla Falls.
