Technology project to boost student learning

16 August 2010

The University of the Sunshine Coast is jumping at the opportunity to display how technology can be used to enhance student learning through a new project called eLEAP.

USC’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill will officially launch the eLearning and Flexible Delivery Advancement Project (eLEAP) tomorrow (Tuesday 17 August) during day two of the University’s inaugural Learning and Teaching Week.

Professor Hill said the launch, from 9-11am, would showcase a variety of technology-enhanced learning innovations and practices used by the University’s staff members.

It also will include demonstrations by the University’s eLEAP team of a range of resources and learning technologies to support learning and teaching.

“Guests will have the opportunity to view exhibits, engage with exhibitors and the eLEAP team, and share ideas in a creative learning space,” he said.

Professor Hill said eLEAP aimed to enhance the learning experience of students at the University.

“USC is committed to face-to-face learning and teaching, and eLEAP’s role is to enable staff to augment this through increased use of eLearning approaches and resources and flexible delivery strategies,” he said. “This is commonly known as blended learning and teaching.

“The project will also support development of some fully online courses and programs.”

Professor Hill said eLEAP would help build the capabilities of academics, boost the design and delivery of USC’s courses and programs, and promote leadership.

A special feature of the project is an internal fellowship scheme designed to generate new leadership capability for eLearning and blended learning and teaching with a focus on transforming student learning outcomes and experiences.
