University survey to assess housing choices
The University of the Sunshine Coast will launch an online survey next week to assist research into the housing choices of Coast residents.
The questionnaire, which will take 10-15 minutes to complete, is part of a collaborative “Housing Choice Research Project” involving USC’s Project Management Centre, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's Housing Affordability Taskforce, and Investa Property Group.
Principal researcher and USC Professor of Property Development Mike Hefferan said the survey included questions about housing affordability in the region, higher-density living, and why people have chosen to live where they do.
“As is widely recognised, housing affordability and the alignment of housing supply with real future demand are critical issues for the Sunshine Coast region,” he said.
“The results of this online survey will enable the identification of hard data and facts to put towards this debate.
Professor Hefferan said the Housing Choice Research Project could lead to the development of an affordable housing model for residents on the Sunshine Coast.
The online survey will be accessible on the University’s website from Monday 16 August to Friday 10 September.
Professor Hefferan said the project’s key stakeholders would next week invite their employees to complete the questionnaire – a move that could attract up to 8,000 potential respondents.
He said other members of the public, aged 18 and over, also were welcome to participate in the anonymous survey. All answers will be treated with confidentiality.
Survey participants can also elect to take part in a prize draw to win one of eight Coles Shopping Gift Cards valued at between $25 and $150.
Further details about the survey are available from Sophie Barnard on (07) 5459 4662.
