USC artist's work on show in New York
A University of the Sunshine Coast academic and artist will officially open his own exhibition in New York on 23 September.
The 22 artworks by USC Art and Design Senior Lecturer Kevin Todd are already on show for the American public at the Adelphi University Gallery in Garden City, NY.
Mr Todd will attend a reception on 23 September for his exhibition, called “Too Perfect To Be Natural”.
The spiral-based paintings and computer-generated forms include oil and pencil on timber and digital prints on aluminium.
“The underlying geometry unifies seemingly disparate media, connecting the traditional aesthetic of the oil paintings with the coolness of the digital prints,” he said.
“The artworks suggest a world where imperfection is equally a part of nature and creation.”
In an unusual move, Mr Todd has included instructions on how to create the geometric forms to encourage viewers to engage with the process and create their own art. “A compass, ruler, pencils and time are all that is needed.”
He has an extensive record of gallery and commissioned work and residencies in Australia and overseas, focusing on digital media and art for architecture.
Mr Todd also will give lectures and visit other New York universities to help recruit “study abroad” students for USC. Adelphi University took its first Design student from USC last semester.
He has interest from other galleries to tour his exhibition.
