Workshop to help community collaborate
The University of the Sunshine Coast will soon host a symposium that could lead to community and business projects that were never thought possible previously.
The one-day workshop, “A community collaborating together – imagine the possibilities”, will be held at USC’s Innovation Centre Auditorium on Tuesday 31 August.
It will be run by Lifeline Community Care Queensland and STEPS, with the aim of helping individuals and organisations across the region develop greater collaborative skills.
Organiser Heidi Keast of USC’s Project Management Centre said the event from 9am to 4pm was open to community and cultural groups, government, education, business and industry, young people and the mature aged.
She said greater collaboration on the Coast could help enable a whole range of business and community projects and opportunities that might otherwise remain unachievable or untapped.
“The workshop will provide those who attend with experiences of working together and it will be focused on how to collaborate for a purpose,” she said.
“It will be an opportunity for people across the community who normally might not interact on a regular basis to come together to experience the collaborative process.
“The attendees will gain a greater understanding of the tools and methods used for collaboration and will witness a showcase of effective collaboration processes that have worked on the Sunshine Coast and in other regions around the world.”
The workshop will be led by change facilitator Mary-Alice Arthur of New Zealand.
Keynote speaker will be Fr Frank Brennan AO, who has gained international renown for his work in advocating human rights in issues involving law, social justice and reconciliation.
Registrations for the workshop are required by Friday 13 August by contacting Heidi Keast at hkeast@usc.edu.au or (07) 5456 5023. The cost to attend is $88.
Fr Brennan also will be the guest speaker at the next USC Business Professionals Forum at the Innovation Centre Auditorium on the evening of Tuesday 31 August. He will speak on the topic of “Is there morality of business?”.
