Counselling graduate writes book
A University of the Sunshine Coast student has written a personal development book using elements of her counselling and psychology studies at USC.
Masters of Education student Carmen Wyld has self-published “Heal the Planet from Within”, a self-help book which offers a method of self-examination that enables people to improve their lives by becoming aware of their thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours.
Carmen, who wants people to be excited by life, has already achieved a Bachelor of Social Science (Counselling) at USC – a degree that included seven psychology subjects.
“I couldn’t have written this book without USC,” she said.
“Many of the counselling and psychology theories that I learnt in my degree are included in the book, especially cognitive and behavioural therapies.”
As someone who has “always wanted to make the world a better place”, Carmen said completing the book was a huge leap toward achieving her goal.
“When I was young, I noticed a lot of people in pain and unhappy, which really hurt me,” she said.
“Ever since then, I vowed to heal myself from within first and learn to be a better person so that I can turn around and make the world a better place myself.
“Improving your life is about knowing yourself first and becoming aware of your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes and knowing how they affect your lifestyle.”
While Carmen first put pen to paper for this book in 1986, she said it was really only in the past two years that she concentrated her efforts on completing and publishing the book.
Carmen will be launching “Heal the Planet from Within” at Envy Cafe on Saturday 5 November from 2-4pm. She will also conduct book talks at local libraries in November.
