Courtney gets down to Business at USC

University of the Sunshine Coast new Arts-Business student Courtney Angel

18 January 2011

A student who topped business class last year at Sunshine Coast Grammar School and received an OP2 is eager to start her Bachelor of Arts/Business at the University of the Sunshine Coast next month.

But community-minded Courtney Angel has plenty she wants to do before the University’s Orientation Week in mid-February.

She spent last weekend assisting rescues in wild surf while on lifesaving patrol at Mooloolaba and will spend next weekend in Brisbane helping flood relief efforts as part of a volunteer group. She also has a part-time retail job.

“I like to be busy,” said the ambitious 18-year-old from Mountain Creek who last year won two school awards for leadership and all-round achievements.

Courtney is now examining the courses she wants to pursue at USC, in particular Marketing and Psychology.

Because she lives locally, she received an extra credit which gave her an OP1 equivalent to enrol at the University.

With almost all options open to her, Courtney didn’t find it difficult to choose her tertiary study path.

“I moved here from Sydney seven years ago and wanted to stay on the Coast because I like the laidback lifestyle and the people,” she said.

“I’d heard from past USC students about how good its business courses were and I’ve always been interested in business.

“I’m an ideas person and there are so many things you can do, places you can go, when you work in business.”

The budding entrepreneur also plays netball, sports aerobics and the clarinet.

She is one of 2,700 people who have been offered places in degree programs at USC for Semester One 2011 – a five percent increase on 2010.
