Finance gurus talk economy and carbon
Want to know what’s ahead for the national and global economy, interest and exchange rates, the sharemarket, property prices and carbon taxes?
The chief economist of BT Financial Group and the “carbon guru” of Westpac will be keynote speakers at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Business Insights Forum on Thursday 16 June.
Chris Caton of BT and Scott James of Westpac will visit the USC Innovation Centre to offer Sunshine Coast business people their latest analyses and predictions on a wide range of economic topics.
USC Dean of Business Professor Evan Douglas said the insights of Mr Caton and Mr James – two of the best in their fields in the country – were highly valued.
“The Faculty of Business hosts these networking forums so students, academics and the local industry have the chance to hear highly-skilled industry experts address key issues in our region,” Professor Douglas said.
Mr James will give a presentation called, “So what’s this whole carbon thing really mean?”
He is head of the agribusiness segment at Westpac and led the bank’s response to the Government’s Carbon Farming Initiative. He is also a member of the Australian Bankers’ Association agribusiness working group.
Mr Caton, known as a dynamic communicator who can bring economics alive for an audience, has held his BT position for 11 years.
In the 1990s he was chief economist at Bankers Trust and also advised the Government on matters relating to the housing industry.
The $40-a-ticket forum will include light refreshments and run from 5.30pm to 8pm. To register, call 5430 1221 or email businessevents@usc.edu.au.
