Four staff receive Vice-Chancellor’s Medals
Four exceptional University of the Sunshine Coast staff were rewarded at the 2011 USC Graduation ceremonies for the quality of their service.
Dr Christine Morley of Sunshine Beach, Jennifer Carter of Palmwoods, Jamilla Rosdahl of Currimundi and Elizabeth Cannon of Alexandra Headland received 2011 Vice-Chancellor’s Medals.
Dr Morley, a Senior Lecturer in Social Work, was recognised for her contributions to the advancement of learning and teaching.
She focuses on teaching the theory and practice of social work as well as community development.
Her recent research has focused on grief and loss, in particular people who have lost a companion pet. Her PhD and previous work involved counselling in the area of sexual assault.
Ms Rosdahl, a USC Arts Honours graduate, is a Sociology tutor who received the medal for her excellence and innovation in facilitating student learning.
Last year she became the first USC recipient of a postgraduate scholarship from The Australian Sociological Association.
Ms Rosdahl’s PhD examines the contradictory relationship between muscularity and femininity, in relation to the sport of bodysculpting.
Ms Carter is an Associate Professor of Geography who received the medal for contributions to the advancement of research and/or research training.
Her latest research investigated how farmers in the South Pacific could benefit from adapting their techniques for processing Canarium nuts.
Previous research included weed management practices in south-east Queensland and natural and cultural resource management in the Burnett-Mary Rivers region.
Ms Carter specialises in cultural, rural and environmental geographies that link people and place and has worked extensively with Indigenous landholders and across government and non-government sectors.
Ms Cannon, who is USC Associate Director of Financial Services, was recognised for her significant contributions to the implementation of major financial reforms that will continue to have positive impacts on the University’s future.
She was praised for her leadership skills and quality of service at both individual and collective levels.
