Facts and figures are on the agenda at the 2011 USC Research Conference

20 July 2011

The popular annual Three-Minute Thesis Competition for postgraduate research students returns to the University of the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 21 July at 11.30am.

Five students will have just three minutes each to distil a topic that has taken them years to research.

Diverse topics range from the use of computer games in classrooms to dealing with climate change on the Coast.

The competition is part of this week’s 2011 USC Research Conference which ends Friday 22 July.

Six senior USC researchers also will deliver 10-minute presentations on Thursday from 10am to 11.30am. The topics include:

• The merits of applying credit multipliers to international carbon offset projects to improve outcomes such as sustainable development;
• Exploring the role of hope in predicting responsible financial behaviour;
• An exploration of midwifery practice during birth and how it influences mothers;
• A reflection on the study of Italian migrants’ lives and memories;
• Testing the veracity of historical fiction in relation to a 1940 publication, ‘Headhunters of the Coral Sea’.
