Nominate an outstanding graduate for awards

2010 Outstanding Alumni Award winners Dr PM Kam, Associate Professor Gary Crew and Madonna Kennedy

9 June 2011

The University of the Sunshine Coast is seeking nominations from the community for its annual Outstanding Alumni of the Year Awards.

USC would like to hear from employers, parents, friends and colleagues of graduates who have attained significant achievements since graduating from the University.

This could include high achievers in any field of endeavour, from professional or community work to postgraduate study and research.

Last year’s award winners were Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong’s Financial Reporting Council Dr PM Kam (PhD 2008), Queensland Health Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Prevention Coordinator Madonna Kennedy (Bachelor of Science – Public Health 2001) and renowned author and USC academic Dr Gary Crew (Doctor of Creative Writing 2005).

The 2011 Outstanding Alumni of the Year Awards will again have three prizes, one each for graduates from USC’s three faculties. Nominations will close on Friday 8 July.

USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said the annual awards honoured all USC graduates and he urged the community to get involved.

“There are now thousands of high-calibre USC graduates who are striving and excelling in their chosen fields across the region, state, nation and world,” he said.

“We encourage people to nominate successful graduates for these awards so they can be recognised for the significant contributions they are making.

“By recognising their achievements individually, USC is also celebrating the growth in prestige of our alumni generally along with the University’s continuing contribution to the advancement of this region and beyond.”

The awards will be presented at the 2011 Outstanding Alumni Awards Ceremony on Thursday 15 September at the University.

USC’s Alumni Relations Officer Anita Edmonds said previously nominated alumni who were unsuccessful in the past could be re-nominated, and self nominations would be accepted.

“If you know an outstanding graduate, please submit a nomination form that’s available on the USC website or contact me at <alumni@usc.edu.au> or on (07) 5459 4564,” she said.
