Scholarship for youngest of USC family trio

Nadine Warmerdam, right, and fellow Noosa District State High School graduates are congratulated by the school's guidance officer Damien Quinn on receiving scholarships from USC

16 March 2011

A 17-year-old who has joined her mother and sister as students of the University of the Sunshine Coast has received a $6,000 scholarship.

Tewantin’s Nadine Warmerdam has started a Bachelor of Paramedic Science after receiving one of the USC Vice-Chancellor’s Merit Scholarships for 2011.

“I screamed when I found out about the scholarship, it was so exciting,” she said. “I work part-time but paramedic equipment is expensive so this will really help out.”

Nadine has settled in comfortably to campus life after completing two Headstart courses while she was still attending Noosa District State High School.

“I studied Creative Writing and Digital Photography and they were great courses. It means I knew what to expect from lectures this year.”

Nadine’s desire to help people sparked her enrolment in Paramedic Science.

“Studying at USC is a family thing. My sister is doing Psychology and Human Resources and my mum has finished Education and Science,” she said.

Worth $6,000 over three years, the Vice-Chancellor’s Merit Scholarships are awarded to undergraduates for high academic achievement, leadership skills and financial need.
