Students to meet potential employers at fair

Senior Constable Jeremy Spencer of Queensland Police chats with Education student Trevor Laur at a previous Careers Fair

17 March 2011

More than 27 local, state and national employers will get direct access to the next generation of educated workers at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Thursday 24 March.

Organisations attending the fourth annual USC Careers Fair will range from local and state government departments to construction, finance, tourism and health businesses and groups.

“We’re expecting similar interest from students to last year’s event, which attracted almost 800 students,” said USC Career Connection Industry Liaison Officer Melissa Sheridan.

Ms Sheridan said the fair gave employers the chance to meet potential interns and staff and gain a face-to-face understanding of what students are learning at USC.

“For example, they can talk to Nursing and Engineering students about the latest industry advances that are being incorporated into the curriculum,” she said.

“Businesses can promote themselves, network with other industry leaders and mould quality students early in their career path.”

The fair is a prime opportunity for the University to showcase its rapid growth in terms of students, courses and campus facilities.

Students can boost their own confidence by networking in their chosen industry and endeavouring to line up work experience, internship opportunities or even job interviews.

“It’s a fantastic way for students to learn about careers in their particular field before they graduate,” she said.

The USC Careers Fair will be held on the upper deck of the Chancellery on 24 March from 10am to 2pm.
