USC offers careers ideas across south-east

5 July 2011

Potential tertiary students as far north as Bundaberg, west to Toowoomba and south to Brisbane will get the latest advice on careers and courses when the University of the Sunshine Coast hits the road next week.

“We’re the fastest growing university campus in Australia, with our student enrolments to jump from the current 8,000 to 15,000 within the decade,” said USC Acting Manager of External Relations Julie Flanagan.

“We’re seeing more and more of this interest coming from a broader catchment across south-east Queensland, as well as the core Sunshine Coast market.

“USC staff and students will attend these careers expos to provide a wide range of information to people of any age who want to further their education.

“There are many pathways to a tertiary degree other than high school rankings and this University provides extensive student support services.”

The Sunshine Coast Daily Careers Expo will be first off the mark on Thursday 14 July.

It will be held from 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm at the USC Sport Stadium at Sippy Downs, with more than 150 representatives from education and industry.

The next event will be the Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO) involving more than 250 representatives from around Australia including universities, TAFE and other education providers, defence and police forces, graduate employers and government agencies.

USC will take part in TSXPO at the RNA Showgrounds in Bowen Hills from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 16 July and Sunday 17 July.

USC also will attend five other Careers Expos at:

  • Bundaberg on Wednesday 20 July, 10am-2.30pm and 4.30pm-6.30pm at Bundaberg Civic Centre, Bourbong Street;
  • Fraser Coast on Thursday 21 July, 9.30am-4.30pm at Wide Bay Institute of TAFE, Hervey Bay campus;
  • Gympie on Friday 22 July, 9.30am-4pm at Gympie Civic Centre, Mellor Street;
  • Toowoomba on Tuesday 26 July, 10am-2pm and 4pm-7pm at University of Southern Queensland, Baker Street, Toowoomba; and
  • South Burnett on Thursday 28 July, 10am-4pm at Kingaroy State High School, Toomey Street, Kingaroy.

Ms Flanagan said USC had more than 140 degrees available in Arts and Social Sciences, Business, Science, Health and Education.

She expected lots of inquiries about USC’s popular Global Opportunities (GO) Program, which enables students to spend a semester or two studying overseas.
