USC opens study, research links in Poland
A visit next week by representatives from Poland’s largest university of economics will cement the University of the Sunshine Coast’s first link to a tertiary education institution in Eastern Europe.
Two officials from the Krakow University of Economics will spend three days at USC from Monday 22 August to see operations at the Sippy Downs campus and develop connections between academic staff and study exchanges for students.
USC International Associate Director Greg White said the Polish university, established in 1925, was a member of prestigious organisations such as the Network of International Business and was located in a leading educational, economic and tourist centre.
“Many of their programs are taught in English so USC students will soon have the chance to spend a semester in the major university town of Krakow, which has more than 200,000 students at its various institutions,” he said.
“USC Faculty of Business staff also will benefit through access to research and academic partners in Eastern Europe.
“Poland is growing economically and in importance in the European Union, so we see this new relationship as an investment in the future.”
USC Dean of Business Professor Evan Douglas will meet the officials, International Director Ms Agnieszka Nawrocka and International Coordinator Ms Izabela Nowakowska, on campus.
Professor Douglas will then travel to the Polish institution in September to examine its curriculum and programs and look at opportunities for academic and research cooperation.
Both visits are being funded through Queensland Education and Training International (QETI) grants to USC.
