USC runs annual tertiary showcase for youth

7 March 2011

More than 3,000 Year 12 students between Caloundra and Gympie are this week learning about their tertiary options at an annual event organised by the University of the Sunshine Coast.

USC External Relations Manager Kylie Russell said it would be a record attendance for the eighth University Showcase, to be held from today, Monday 7 March, to Tuesday 15 March.

The showcase travels to six districts in six days and features eight Queensland universities, the Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE and the Australian Defence Force as exhibitors.

“We’re delighted to have 22 state and private schools involved in this year’s one-stop-shop for students interested in going to uni,” Ms Russell said.

The biggest day will be Thursday 10 March when almost 900 students attend the showcase at schools in Sippy Downs, Mountain Creek and Nambour.

Ms Russell said USC organised the event as part of its commitment to regional engagement and to encourage more young people to continue their education.

“They can access information about degree programs, pathways to uni, admissions, study costs, accommodation and campus life in general,” she said.

USC’s Student Ambassadors travel with the showcase to talk one-on-one with students about their experiences at the Sippy Downs campus.

Universities involved this year are: the University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, University of Southern Queensland, Central Queensland University, Bond University and the Australian Catholic University.
