Creative Generation to shine at USC Gallery

Ethereal Illusion by Courtney Press of Chancellor College is part of the 2011 Creative Generation exhibition at the USC Gallery

18 August 2011

An exciting and varied exhibition of high-quality visual art and design by high school students will go on display at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery at 6pm on Thursday 25 August.

The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design – North Coast Region exhibition will be officially opened by the Department of Education and Training’s North Coast Regional Director Greg Peach.

This exhibition recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland’s state and non-state schools. For most students involved, this will be the first time their artwork will feature in a professional art gallery.

Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said the exhibition provided wonderful recognition for talented students and could help some decide to pursue careers in visual arts.

“The USC Gallery has been showing this exhibition by local students for many years and we have built a rapport with schools, teachers and students,” she said.

“The exhibition opening is a wonderful event, with proud families and friends present, and this year we will also have a musical performance from Chancellor State College.”

Ms Oelrich said the Creative Generation program had been conducted annually since 1990, raising community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts education in Queensland secondary schools.

The exhibition, which will run until Thursday 15 September, is presented in association with the Queensland Government Department of Education and Training and the Arts, and S & S Wholesalers.

The USC Gallery is located at the University campus on Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs. It is open free to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday. The Gallery is closed Sundays and public holidays.

The 2011 University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery program is proudly supported by Coastline BMW and the Kurtz family.
