Environmental Health degree is accredited

7 December 2011

The University of the Sunshine Coast’s Bachelor of Environmental Health Science has been awarded full accreditation by the Board of Environmental Health Australia (EHA).

The three-year, full-time health science degree was introduced to USC’S course structure in 2007 in response to a national shortage of qualified environmental health officers.

USC’s Health & Environment Senior Lecturer Dr Anne Roiko said she welcomed EHA’s official certification of the degree.

“What this means is that this course is producing qualified Environmental Health professionals or officers who are automatically eligible to apply for positions in this field,” she said.

“Students who graduate are equipped with highly sought-after skills in areas such as health risk assessment and environmental management.

“They are able to work in areas like food safety, water quality and climate change – basically anything that deals with how the environment impacts people’s health and wellbeing.”

Dr Roiko said that graduates from this degree are in high demand and have been very successful in either securing jobs or continuing with postgraduate study.
